Meerut City is known for many things: Mangal Pandey and the Mutiny of 1857, gazak and revaries (sweets), scissors, Cricket bats, sports gear and communal violence (Unfortunately). But Meerut is especially famous for one thing that's the Mutiny of 1857, which was started by Mangal pandey in May, 1857 and made the city's history immortal. 

Certain things one must be aware of the place are as follows:

• Meerut city was conquered by Muslims in 1192, ravaged by Timur in 1399, and became part of the  Mughall empire.
• An important town of the Jat Bharatpur kingdom (mid 18th cent.), it subsequently fell to the British, who made it a major military cantonment .
• The city is provided with great monuments built by the Mughal emperors.
• The city was the part of Hastinapur Empire of Kaurvas that ruled the Vedic .
•  The local culture bears certain lucid traits as borrowed from that of Muslim rulers of the middle ges
• The place has good accommodation and transport facilities. The place is the harbinger of Mughlai cuisine and a number of quality restaurants operate in the city.
• The place has extreme climate and it is recommended to visit during winter season.
